Charlotte, NC, May 10, 2011 – A motorized Phantom QD™ Proofer highlighted global anilox supplier Harper Corporation’s tabletop exhibit at the March PLGA Global Operational Conference in Miami.

Alex James, Technical Graphics Manager of Harper GraphicSolutions - Eastern Division, and Tony Donato, Harper Product Development Engineer, staffed the exhibit and answered questions from visitors.

Sustainability was the theme for the two-day Packaging & Label Gravure Association Global event. Attendees heard from a sustainable packaging executive from Wal-Mart Canada. Margie Dana, Print Buyers International founder, delivered the forum’s closing speech. Also, PLGA recognized winners of its 2010 Print Quality competition.

The Harper display included a standard engraved sleeve and a second anilox engraved sleeve using the firm’s XDI (Extreme Digital Image) process. XDI technology is a growing option in one- and two-color gravure printing.

Introduced last year, the motorized Phantom QD™ brings even more ease of use to a proofer line already known for portability and ease of operation.Harper QD proofing systems maintain a constant loading pressure between the proofer and the substrate.

By adding a motor to drive the proofer over the table length, Harper has eliminated another process variable. The motorized proofer operates at speeds from 100 to 400 inches per minute, with 110-volt power capability. Harper supplies the motorized option on its 800mm table length Phantom QD™.

Phantom models are available in a traditional format for water- based and solvent inks where rollers are engraved at a 60-degree hex angle. A viscous format version is available for thick and metallic inks where rollers are engraved at a 30-degree hex angle.
